The Landford Poacher

Our Story

In early 2014, Matt Grigg purchased a small pub that had been neglected for years with the vision of bringing an old coaching inn back to life. Since then, he has developed The Landford Poacher into a popular destination that has become a favorite among locals and tourists alike. With its cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food and drinks, The Landford Poacher is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a great time with friends and family.

One of the highlights of the pub is its TV memorabilia theme, featuring dozens of items from the old Southern / Meridian TV studios in Northam. Broadcaster Fred Dinenage even officially opened the pub. The pub has become a regular meeting place for many ex-Southern TV staff, hosting an ITV reunion each year. The Alex Dyke show on BBC Radio Solent has even been broadcast live from the premises.

In addition to its TV memorabilia, The Landford Poacher also boasts the latest rapid electric car chargers in the car park and is listed in the UK Britstop guide. Hence, it is a popular venue for car meets, including the Ivor Bleaney classic car show. Visitors, especially children, love the pub's fixture, a silverback gorilla in the garden, affectionately known as Fred.

On Sundays, the pub's carvery serves around 180 people from far and wide, with a choice of eight freshly cooked vegetables that are a particular favorite among customers. The Poacher mixed grill ranks among the pub's signature dishes, along with other classic pub meals that are on the menu, with the two chefs, Jim and Scott, collectively having more than 50 years of catering experience.
